Woodstock Museum Hosts Lennon Bed-In

lennonJohn Lennon and Yoko Ono’ s famous bed from their “Give Peace A Chance” Bed-In will be displayed at the Woodstock Museum in Bethel Woods, New York.

The exhibit will feature more than 20 large-format photos and 15 test panels by Gerry Dieter.  Dieter is the photographer that covered the couple’s famous peace protest for Life Magazine.  He remained with the couple for the entire 8 days, documenting  and capturing the couple giving interviews, singing and chatting with famous pals.  The event, staged in room 1742 of Montreal, Canada’s Queen Elizabeth Hotel, was held to protest the Vietnam War.

I’m sure the young of today will laugh at this historic memento.  So much has changed since 1969.  The idea of an unmarried couple being in bed together was scandalous enough, let alone being viewed in public.  “Make Love Not War” was the motto at the time.  The decade of the 1960’s and early 1970’s was one of optimism, turmoil and cultural change.  With the election of John F Kennedy the “new” generation was finally being represented and new traditions were being formed.  Hmm…maybe things haven’t changed that much after all.
