Remembering Those Super-Stars that have Passed

In recent weeks we have lost several Super-Stars that have helped mold the entertainment industry and have made our lives richer by sharing their lives with us.  Many of us grew up watching Kung-fu, Charlie’s Angels, The Tonight Show, The Streets of San Francisco and The Jackson’s as Michael sang ABC & 123 and more recently Billy Mays pimping OxyClean on his infomercials.

These people helped to shape a generation and they will be missed.

Farrah Fawcett’s – PRIVATE FUNERAL

Farrah’s son, Redmond and his father Ryan O’Neal were joined by Farrah’s closest friends and family for the private funeral held Tuesday afternoon at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles.

Marla Maples, Joan Collins and Tatum O’Neal were among the 200 guests attending the hour-long Catholic service, where longtime friendAlana Stewart and Fawcett’s doctor Lawrence Piro delivered the eulogies.

“Goodbye sweet girl,” said Stewart. ”  Farrah never felt sorry for herself during her illness … she fought cancer furiously.”

“She’s the most beautiful angel in heaven,” Stewart added. “She always seemed so indestructible.”

With city police and private security lining the streets, Ryan and Redmond arrived at the cathedral around 3:50 p.m. and served as pallbearers, carrying Fawcett’s casket, adorned with yellow and orange flowers.

A man in a kilt played “Amazing Grace” on a bagpipe at the beginning of the service, which also included Bible readings and prayer.

After the service ended, vans shuttled guests to the reception at the Jonathan Club, where a band played Fawcett’s favorite songs.

Farrah Fawcett – THE QUEEN OF STARS

Farrah Fawcett’s tragic death continues to be in the shadows as news of Michael Jackson’s death consumes the medias attention.

Posted today, were comments made by younger adults that subdued Farrah’s life and contributions in comparison to that of the “King of Pop”.   Despite the 12 year difference in age between these two icons and the lack of exposure of the younger generation to Farrah’s work, she is still one of the brightest stars among many.

The posts that I read today describes Farrah as being best known for her role as Jill Monroe on the 1976-77 debut season of Charlie’s Angels(she made a few guest appearances in seasons three and four), Fawcett also won critical acclaim for a television movie The Burning Bed as well as both a movie and stage performance in Extremeties.  The Farrah I remember was so much more.

Farrah Fawcett, formally known as, Farrah Fawcett “Majors” was the without  a doubt the most beautiful woman of the 70’s and 80’s.  Very few males, young or old, did not have or at least at one time oogle over the beautiful actress’s famous poster or fall in love with her beaming smile.

Although she had been with Ryan O’Neal for 29 years the two were never married.  I like to think that she never really got over Lee Majors.  Lee Majors, who no one has really mentioned since her death, and the beautiful actress, were at one time, the most popular couple in Hollywood.  Everyone wanted to be either Lee or Farrah.  I remember being angry when Lindsay Wagner was paired with Lee Majors for the role of Jaime Sommers in the “Six Million Dollar Man”.  When the two divorced I was devastated!

Farrah began a hair style that swept the world.  Every woman, under age 65, I think, either had or tried to have “Farrah Hair”!  Even some boys attempted incorporating Farrah’s hairstyle into their own, sporting “Fly Backs”!

She did do a very tasteful feature for Playboy Magazine.  She was Beautiful, Poised but Sassy.  She never gave paparazzi shots of her pantiles crotch as she got out of a vehicles wearing mini-skirts.  She was never in Rehab, never shaved her head.  She was never found passed out drunk on the sidewalk.  She was a lady and a real Star when being a Star meant having talent and not just drawing attention to yourself.

Farrah was the sweetheart of the world for years.  Many of the younger generation have not had the opportunity to experience the ( Farrah Phenomenon ) therefore do not understand what she meant to us all.  I hope that this post, in her honor, will in some way make up,  just a little for the lack of attention that her death has received during her passing.  If Michael Jackson was the “King of Pop”, then Farrah was certainly the “Queen of Stars”.

Farrah’s Decision

farrah-fawcettAfter the release of Farrah’s Story last Friday, the blog and gossip world is alive with the questions – When Farrah was first diagnosed with anal cancer did she sign her death warrant when she refused chemo?  Did she put vanity over her health regarding her decisions to keep her signature locks and refusing surgery? Surgery would have left her with a colonoscopy bag.

Maybe she did, and I will go on record stating that it was her decision to do so.  I’m sure that she knew what the risks were, but inadvertently thought that the outcome would be “different” for her..  That she would beat the odds.  Farrah will pay the ultimate price for her decisions…her life, but who’s to say the outcome would be any different if she made different decisions.  We can’t go through life second guessing ourselves, our first guesses at what to do are difficult enough.  I’m sure we all would do some things differently if given the chance.  I sincerely hope that the public doesn’t turn on Farrah at her time of need because of this.

Having suffered from breast cancer myself, the choices you have to make can be very scary.  Oncologists push chemo at patients regardless of the consequences.  Their goal is to save a life regardless of the quality.  I have personally seen chemo treatments kill people in long drawn out ways.  Again this is a personal choice or quantity of life over quality of life.  I would never beseech anyone for making that decision.   I, myself, believe in quality of life over quantity, once again a personal decision.

The bigger questions here is why does society judge people on their appearances?  Getting a few gray hairs? No problem he’s some hair color.   Showing a few wrinkles? No problem here’s some botox.   Overweight? Take these pills.  A colonoscopy bag? No Way.   I’ve heard a few comments from women who say they would have made the exact decisions that Farah did.  Beauty at all cost.

Great Goodbye to Farrah!

imagesCANAW4RGThis is bullshit!!  Sorry if I offended anyone, but my God, what has the world come to.  Everyone wants to make the almighty dollar, without any regards or compassion for anyone in the human race.  I guess that’s one of the reasons I will never be wealthy…I couldn’t stomach using people especially someone on their deathbed.

The story is that Craig Nevius, a producer that worked with Farrah Fawcett on the documentary about her fight with anal cancer, is suing Ryan O’Neal, Ryan’s  business manager,  and Alana Stewart.  Ryan, Farrah’s long time life partner and Alana, her best friend and ex-wife of Rod Stewart, took total control of filming Farrah’s fight with cancer over 2 months ago.  According to the Associated Press, Nevius doesn’t name Farrah as a defendant in the suit.  Nor does he want the show to be stopped.  He is asking for unspecified damages, and wants to regain creative control.  (It’s completed and being shown.)

When Nevius was reached by email by EW he said “My intent today is the same as it has been when I first started working with Farrah in 2004:  to execute her artistic vision in projects that are a reflection of her while at the same time maintaining and protecting her personal privacy to the extent of her expressed wishes and desires.  There is no joy in this for me.  There is no ego in this for me.  This is not about money.  This is about Farrah and the trust she placed in me. She’s my friend.”

Ryan and Alana’s representative, Paul Bloch told EW today, “We hope and we pray that Farrah doesn’t hear or see of this lawsuit.  We didn’t expect this at all, we didn’t get any warning – it is very sad.  We saw the show last night in its entirety and it’s beautiful.  It’s amazing how Alana shot this show, she’s the filmographer, and she and Ryan have been just pivotal here.

I once again say, this is bullshit!!  Farrah has gone on record stating that at first she felt violated by the tabloids with their false and misleading headlines.  “I’m a private person,” she told The Times.  “I’m shy about people knowing things.  And I’m really shy about my medical care.  It would be good if I could just go and heal and then when I decided to go out, it would be OK.”

Farrah is near death and one of her friends is suing her loved ones for money!  What a friend!  Yeah, maybe I’m taking this a little hard, heck I never followed Farrah and her career, but I have shared cancer with her.  I’ve had my own bout with breast cancer and held my father’s hand as he died from lung cancer.  People it’s not pretty.  When Farrah made the decision to film her journey, I’m sure she felt that there would be a miracle cure for her.  Her decision to make this film was probably very healing for her, and gave her the inner strength to keep going.  I would guess that two months ago, when she realized that her battle was nearing an end, the decision was made to keep up the filming, but under much more privacy.  I don’t care how much your friends love and care for you,  there are just some things that you don’t want someone to witness in person.  It’s makes perfect sense to me that Farrah wanted to finish her story, regardless where it ended.  Farrah decided when the documentary was to be released, she knew exactly what she was doing.  I’m sure she realized that by the time it aired, her time here on earth would be very close to the end.  This would be her final legacy, her gift to the world.  Yeah, and Nevius is concerned that the film was recut from  top to bottom and includes footage that Farrah had never seen or approved.  He’s only watching out for her best interest.  He knows better than anyone else that Farrah wouldn’t have wanted the film shown in this way!  Apparently Nevius never signed any type of contract with Farrah, he claims by the time he got the contract to her she was already to ill to sign it.

Nevius couldn’t even wait until Farrah was gone before acting like a buzzard.  The initial reviews are saying the film is amazing and could be considered for an Emmy Award as either outstanding nonfiction special or for the juried award for exceptional merit in nonfiction film making.  Thank you Farrah for sharing one of the most intimate parts of your life, for sharing  what cancer is actually like, for being honest and unselfish.  And Craig Nevius what goes around comes around.  Be afraid to look at your future, because karma can be a real bitch!

Farrah Fawcett – A Final Message

farrah_fawcett

Farrah Fawcett is near the end of her life after suffering from anal cancer that has metastasized throughout her body. Well known as one of the most popular pin up girls of all time, Farrah has decided to share in her battle with cancer and the paparazzi. Her rights have been violated, her medical records breached, and rumours of her being near death have been publicized since December of 2006.  She prerecorded an interview with Today show that is currently getting ready to air.

Having suffered from cancer myself, I cannot imagine the hell that Farrah has gone through with the paparazzi…..  Believe me, when you are going through chemo the last thing that you feel is “glamourous.”  Even the remark that Ryan made saying “yes, she has lost her beautiful locks of hair”, is telling in itself.  What in the hell do people expect?  I could just imagine the paparazzi trying to get close enough for a picuture, or even more realistic, paying for a pic of Farrah as she lay dying.  I’m sure that would sell in the tabloids.

Ryan O’Neal was quoted as saying “In the last two years, I loved her more than I’ve ever loved her – ever,” he said. “She’s so much more of a woman and powerful, courageous, fearless, all those adjectives. I look at her with awe.”
