Most Unhealthy Foods of 2009 – Mmm Delicioso !

WARNING

If you are gastronomically challenged, turn and run away!

Picture, for  a moment.  Scoops of macaroni and cheese, deep-fried, topped with more cheese and sitting in plate of marinara sauce.  Or Little bacon-cheeseburgers tucked inside quesadillas.  What about A steak served up with a half racks of ribs on the side.  Remember, a moment on your lips, forever on your hips!

The Center for Science in the Public Interest has voted these above dishes the worst or the worst in its 2009 Extreme Eating wards.  I, Cindy Reed, have personally tried all of the following deliciously delectable darengers of devilish delight, more than once, and will give you my opinions of each dish!

  • Red Lobster Ultimate Fondue: Shrimp and crab meat in a lobster cheese sauce served in a sourdough bowl, with 1,490 calories, 40 grams of saturated fat and 3,580 mg of sodium. The center said this dish makes up about two-days sodium intake. I found this dish yummy!  I give this dish two claws up for both texture and flavor!
  • Applebee’s Quesadilla Burger: A mini-bacon cheeseburger inside a quesadilla. Two flour tortillas, two kinds of meat, two kinds of cheese, pico de gallo salsa, lettuce and a ranch-dressing sauce, served with fries. This meal contains 1,820 calories, 46 grams of saturated fat and 4,410 mg of sodium, the statement said.  I found this dish very confusing.  I couldn’t figure out if I was eating American food, because of he burgers and fries, or Mexican food because of the quesadilla and the pico.  The blend of the two styles, however, I found to be interesting at best.
  • Chili’s Big Mouth Bites: Four mini-bacon-cheeseburgers served with fries, onion strings and jalapeno ranch dipping sauce. The entree has 2,350 calories, 38 grams of saturated fat and 3,940 milligrams of sodium, the center said. Don’t let the name fool you!  They are not that small!  And you can substitute them for boneless buffalo-wing burgers as well!  I would suggest that if you choose the traditional mini bacon-cheeseburgers that you get wing sauce for dipping your fries.  I believe that the spiciness of the wing sauce eats the fat in the rest of the food.  This almost turns it into a Weight Watcher Meal!
  • The Cheesecake Factory Chicken and Biscuits entree: The Center said this dish has 2,500 calories.  We don’t have  a Cheesecake Factory in my area so I haven’t tried this particular dish.  I do LOVE cheesecake.  I just don’t think it would go well with Chicken and Biscuits!

Other dishes, like the Cheesecake Factory’s Fried Macaroni and Cheese, will be named award winners in the June issue of Nutrition Action.  I know the Fried Macaroni and Cheese Balls would be my favorite!  Hey Sister, If you are reading this, we are going to Cheescake Factory next time I visit…And to think we wasted our calories on dessert!

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (now that’s a mouthful) is pushing for a national law that requires restaurant chains with more than 20 locations to post calorie and nutritional guides on printed menus.  The group hopes that these annual awards will better emphasize their cause and educate consumers as to what they are putting into their bodies.
