Mentally Disabled ‘Fight Club’

schooI saw this article a few days ago, and only this morning did I read the entire article.  At first I thought that this story was buried but have since realized that it was covered on Nightline.

Night shift employees at a state school for the mentally disabled in Corpus Christi, TX were forcing residents of the home to take part in a “fight club.”  Not only that, these so called employees were also taping video of these fights with their cell phones.  I’m not going to post the links to the videos because I think they are disgusting.  If anyone wants to view the videos the are posted on line.

“Shocked and disgusted by the unconscionable actions of a few employees” is what a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services has been quoted as saying.

A few employees?  One resident is seen on the video trying to run away from his attacker and a large group of employees and residents .  He can be heard yelling  “I will behave!”  According to statements the fights have been the happening event for over a year and were conducted many nights per week. Some of the residents were told they would be put in prison if they didn’t fight.  They were also told “snitches get stitches”

As I understand, Michael Vick received a 23 month prison sentence for dogfighting, I wonder what these guys will get?  I just don’t get it….I don’t understand how people can be so evil and mean to other human beings, especially someone who is mentally disabled.  I’d like to perform a lobotomy on these jerks.  I wonder if the supervisors were in on it?  I think it would be very hard to miss!

  1. A lobotomy!!!!! That was a good one! No wonder we have a hard time trusting anyone.

It will be interesting to see if we hear what happens. I bet the facility will clean up for awhile and than slip right back into old habits.

I worked for Charter Behavioral many moons ago. They were on TV for years with “crap” they pulled. One day about 9 yrs ago all of a sudden they all closed up. Why did it take so long for the lawyers and State to step in. I could tell you some horror stories that happened, yes, people did go to the police and they came, news media came, articles in the paper but nothing ever happened.

Who knows what the real story is to this day, did they finally get sued big time?

    • Hey Ladybug, Yes, one of the patients parents have sued, that’s how the video was made public. I just saw today that over 40 people have been arrested at this facility. I don’t know if that was over this incident or over the past few years. The numbers were staggering.
